The Benefits of Speaking in Tongues
Three purposes for speaking in tongues
1. As the initial sign that one has received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
2. Using the gift of tongues in Christian gatherings/church services
which should be accompanied by interpretation
3. For personal devotion and to promote spiritual growth.
In this teaching I am not teaching on the gift of tongues and its use in public church
gathering, but for personal devotion only. But what you do behind closed doors,
others will see openly. Private prayer in tongues produces public power.
**********************
Many after receiving the Baptism of the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking
in tongues put no further emphasis on speaking in tongues as a spiritual discipline.
The reason is because they have not been taught about what speaking in
tongues does for them after being baptized with it.
There are many Christians who have not spoke in tongues; then there are
those who have who rarely speak in tongues on a regular basis. This lack of
understanding and emphasis on the subject of speaking in tongues is
a ploy of satan. He does not want the saints to walk in the fullness of
God's power and to take advantage of the supernatural
benefits that speaking in tongues bring.
*******************
Paul spoke in Tongues more than all.
I Corinthians 14:18 - I thank God, I speak with tongues more
than ye all - private Tongues
Many benefits of Speaking in Tongues
When you speak in tongues you build yourself up spiritually.
The primary purpose of speaking in tongues is to promote spiritual growth.
When you speak in tongues, you're building up yourself spiritually.
I Corinthians 14:4 - He who speaks in a strange tongue edifies and improves himself
To build up - it speaks of encouragement and consolation -
it also speaks of becoming established in the faith.
The question to every believer is: is your spiritual structure a skyscraper
or a shack? If you feel like your structure is small, speaking in tongues is a
God-given method of building up yourself and adding to your faith.
Jude 20 - But you beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith
(make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher),
praying in the Holy Ghost.
Speaking in Tongues brings rest and spiritual refreshment.
It brings rest from discouragement, worry, physical weariness and
refreshing in spiritual dry places.
When you are without spiritual and physical energy and when you are heavy with problems, speaking in tongues bring rest and refreshing.
Isaiah 28:11-12 - "For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, this is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear".
I encourage myself when I pray in tongues. When I feel discouraged and tired,
I pray in the Holy Ghost until rest and refreshing comes.
Praying in tongues drives depression and anxiety away every time
Isaiah 12:3 - Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. You draw peace, joy and wisdom out of your
spirit when you pray in tongues.
When you speak in tongues, you keep yourself in the love of God
Jude 20 - But you beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith (make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher), praying in the Holy Ghost.
Jude 21 - Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the
mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
God's love for you never changes, but your experience of it does change -
And your revelation of His love will revolutionize your life.
Speaking in tongues enables you to keep yourself in His love; aware of it,
enjoying it and growing in an understanding of it.
Speaking in Tongues purifies/builds up your faith
Praying in Tongues Allows You to Speak Directly to God
“For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking
only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you.
You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all
be mysterious.” –1 Corinthians 14:2
Praying in Tongues Keeps You in Tune With the Holy Spirit
“And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking
in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” –Acts 2:4
Tongues is a gift from God. It allows you to pray the will of God
by the empowering of the Holy Spirit. When you pray in tongues,
you are yielding to the Holy Spirit who dwells in you. Then you
are allowing that same Spirit to pray through you, so you are in tune
with Him. When you pray in tongues, you are praying God’s will,
directly to Him. It allows your mind to get out of the way so
your spirit can commune with the Father.
Praying in Tongues Strengthens Your Spirit“A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one
who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.”
1 Corinthians 14:4
Praying in tongues builds you up spiritually and
helps you to live a Spirit-led life.
Praying in Tongues Allows You to Pray Even
When You Don’t Know What to Pray“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know
what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with
groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” –Romans 8:26
Even when you don’t know how or what to pray, you can still pray
n tongues. You can trust your spirit to pray the perfect
will of God, regardless of the situation.
Praying in Tongues Is a Weapon Against the Work of the Enemy“And then he told them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the Good
News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved
These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe:
They will cast out demons in my name, and
they will speak in new languages
They will be able to place their hands on the sick,
and they will be healed.’” –Mark 16:15-18
Jesus proclaimed several things that would happen to those who
followed Him and continued His work. Speaking in tongues is one
of those gifts, and it allows Jesus’ followers
to stand against the work of the enemy.
When you pray in tongues, your natural mind doesn't understand.
"For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my
understanding in unfruitful." (I Cor 14:14)
Your spirit is praying when you pray in tongues
Your spirit has the mind of Christ -
I Corinthians 2:16 - For who hath known the mind of the Lord,
that he may instruct him? But we have the mind the Christ.
Your spirit knows ALL THINGS
I John 2:20 - But ye have an unction from the Holy One,
and ye know all things.
Therefore your spirit always knows how to pray perfectly
for situations, yourself and others.
Speaking in Tongues enables you to pray perfectly
There is a big difference between praying from your
spirit and praying from your mind.
· Your natural mind typically has incomplete information.
It lacks full knowledge of God's Word, His will,
the situation and the people involved.
Therefore you cannot pray from your intellect with
completeness and 100% accuracy.
We have a weakness or infirmity in prayer
Romans 8:26 "we know not what we should pray for as we ought."
· However, since your born-again spirit knows all things,
it's impossible to pray in tongues without praying God's will!
I Corinthians 14:15 - What is it then? I will pray with the spirit,
and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit,
and I will sing with the understanding also.
When you speak in tongues, you are speaking the hidden wisdom of God.
Paul received the REVELATION KNOWLEDGE for the messages
he preached through speaking in tongues.
I Corinthians 2:6-7 - Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory.
I Corinthians 14:2 - For he that speaketh in and unknown tongue
speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth him;
howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
When we pray in tongues and ask God for interpretation,
he will reveal his will to our mind.
My spirit is praying - my spirit knows all things.
Praying in tongues sends God's will from my spirit to my mind!
I can pray for interpretation - I Cor. 14:13 - Wherefore let him that
speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
God wants my mind to know what my spirit already knows -
I Corinthians 2:9 - But as it is written, eye hath not see, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath
prepared for them that love him.
I Cor. 2:10 - But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea the deep things of God.
I Cor. 2:12 - Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God
I Cor. 2:13 - Which things also we speak, not in the words
which man's wisdom teacheth; but which the Holy Ghost
teacheth; comparing spiritual with spiritual.
Proverbs 20:5 - Counsel in the heart of man is like
deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
When I don't know what to do about a situation - I can pray in tongues
and ask God to show me what I need to do to bring about the manifestation
that he desires - GOD WANTS OUR MIND TO KNOW WHAT OUR
SPIRIT ALREADY KNOWS - PRAYING IN THE HOLY GHOST
CAN ASSIST IN THIS AREA.
